How much is an RV

How Much is an RV?

How Much is an RV?

An RV can cost as little as $1,000 and as much as $1 million. But to be a little more realistic, data from Rollick reports that the average price of a new RV is $59,000. However, the price of an RV can still vary significantly based on the type of RV you get, the year it was produced, if it is pre-owned, the features and specs on the vehicle, the brand, and its size. Thus, it’s more relevant to look at the average pricing by type of RV, instead of lumping all the RVs together as one category.

Additionally, the MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) of an RV often differs dramatically from the display price of the vehicle. The average difference is 26%, but again, the difference will vary significantly by RV type.

As a rule of thumb, new RVs will almost always be more expensive than used RVs. Both new and used RVs have positives and negatives. To learn more about buying an RV and the pros and cons of a new vs. used RV, read our Ultimate Guide to Buying an RV.

The five types of RVs we cover are so different in style, use, and price from each other that it makes more sense to look at pricing for each type of RV, instead of average pricing for RVs overall. Let’s dive in so you can get your new RV to one of the Top 10 RV Parks in America ASAP.

You still get significantly more comfort than if you were camping with a tent, but these rigs are a stripped-down, just the basics version of a recreation vehicle. Learn more about pop-up campers with our Ultimate Guide to Buying a Pop-Up Camper.

Are Some Manufacturers More Expensive Than Others?

There are manufacturers that are known for their high-class, expensive, luxury RVs. Marathon Coach, for example, only sells RVs that cost between $1.8 million and $2.5 million and Newell Coach only has RVs over $2 million. However, Grand Design, a brand that has “value” in its tagline, sells fifth wheels and travel trailers from $20K to about $50K. As for the difference between brands like Thor, Forest River, Coachmen, Jayco, the price differences are negligible. Each brand has comparable prices that fluctuate based on the type of RV and on the size and features that the RV has.
